Kirin Holdings Company

Kirin Holdings Company, Limited is a Japan-based corporate group active across the food & beverage, pharmaceutical, and health science. Building on the fermentation technology and biotechnology cultivated through our founding beer business, we aim to create a healthier future for people's minds and bodies and to contribute to extending healthy life expectancy.

For over 40 years, Kirin has conducted immunology research—one of the foundations of everyday health—and has contributed to the advancement of immunology, including through its role in the establishment of the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI) in the United States. A central achievement of this immunology research is Lactococcus lactis strain Plasma (LC-Plasma), a lactic acid bacterium discovered through Kirin's fermentation science. LC-Plasma acts on plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), a key immune cell that plays a central role in initiating immune responses and has been reported to help maintain immune function in healthy people. These findings have been examined in a series of human clinical studies and peer-reviewed publications.

What began as a scientific discovery in Japan has since grown into an internationally recognized immune health ingredient. Kirin's health science research extends beyond national borders, across the Asia-Pacific region and worldwide, in collaboration with universities and research institutes around the globe. Through this evolving research on immune modulation and healthy aging, Kirin aims to harness the power of science so that people around the world can live healthily throughout their lives and experience the joy of living as their true selves.
