Dr Yin Xiang Setoh is Global Medical Lead for Vaccines Medical Affairs at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, with a focus on advancing dengue vaccine science and implementation across endemic markets. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, The University of Queensland, Australia.
A virologist by training, Dr Setoh specialises in arboviruses, particularly dengue and the broader flavivirus family. His career spans academic research, national public health and global medical affairs, with an emphasis on translating scientific and clinical evidence into practical approaches for infectious disease prevention and control. Before joining Takeda, Dr Setoh headed the Virology Branch at Singapore’s National Environment Agency, where he led translational research informing public health policy, and supported the national dengue virus surveillance programme.
Dr Setoh holds a PhD in Virology from The University of Queensland. His research has examined flavivirus molecular biology, determinants of viral virulence, reverse-genetics platforms, and novel approaches to vaccine and diagnostic antigen development. His work has been published in journals including Science, Science Translational Medicine, Nature Communications and mBio.
Across his current role, Dr Setoh works at the interface of virology, vaccinology, clinical evidence and public health implementation, supporting the translation of dengue vaccine evidence into meaningful real-world impact in populations affected by dengue.
