Associate Professor Justin Chu is the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). He also holds an Adjunct Senior Principal Investigator appointment at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), A*STAR, and serves as Director of the research-based Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) Facility at NUS.
His research focuses on the molecular biology of medically important positive-sense RNA viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, human enteroviruses causing hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), and mosquito-borne viruses such as dengue, Zika, Japanese encephalitis and chikungunya. His research has contributed to the development of antiviral and vaccine strategies, resulting in eight patents and numerous scientific awards.
Dr Chu has published more than 150 international peer-reviewed scientific publications, six book chapters and over 200 conference papers, including articles in prestigious journals such as Cell, Science, Nature Immunology, The Lancet Infectious Diseases, Science Translational Medicine, Nature Communications, Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B, eBioMedicine, npj Vaccines, PNAS and PLoS Pathogens. He serves as an associate editor and reviewer for international journals and funding agencies in medical virology and antiviral research.
He is the elected President of the Singapore Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology and Immediate Past President of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Virology.
